The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform hereby invites any interested person or body to provide comments on the Green Paper on Land Reform, 2011 (hereinafter referred to as Green Paper), as published hereunder. The Green Paper seeks to provide new policy direction on Land Reform and it also proposes the establishment of institutions to support the implementation of the policy proposals contained in the Green Paper. Don't allow land grabs, Agri SA urges - News24Government should not allow land reform to be undermined by statements encouraging the unlawful occupation of land, Agri SA said on Friday.
"There has been an increase in inflammatory statements aimed at unlawful occupation of land and it seems the ANC leadership has adopted a wait-and-see approach," Agri SA president Johannes Muller said.
"Agri SA negotiates in good faith with the government on matters contained in the green paper on land reform and therefore expects the government not to allow this orderly process to be undermined by irresponsible statements issued specifically also by the ANC youth league."
On Thursday, AfriForum laid a criminal charge against ANCYL leader Julius Malema for reportedly encouraging people to take land without permission.
The organisation said its action was prompted by a report in Beeld newspaper that quoted Malema as saying: "If they don't want to give the land over to us, we must take it without their permission."
Muller said Agri SA had compiled a document on how its members should deal with unlawful occupation of land.
"Agricultural producers must familiarise themselves with the content thereof because their rights and responsibilities in the event of occupation or trespassing are clearly set out therein," he said.
